On This Day In Rock History: Kurt Cobain Meets Courtney Love!

Having finished sessions for their major label debut, Nevermind, the members of Nirvana play an impromptu gig at L.A.'s famed Jabberjaw that was attended by the likes of Iggy Pop, Harry Dean Stanton, and, yes, even Corey Feldman.  Also in attendance was one Courtney Love, who had just returned from Chicago, where she had been seen at several local shows by the likes of Smashing Pumpkins, Material Issue, and Fig Dish sans underwear and hitting on Billy Corgan, Jim Ellison, and Blackie Onassis...among others, we presume.

Unable to procure a husband with the necessary rock cred to elevate her own career, C-Lo stormed back to L.A. depressed and dejected.  Before she could demolish the box of bon bons she had swiped from an airport gift shop, Love accepted an invitation from L7's Jennifer Finch to come see Nirvana perform.

While Nirvana unleashed the fucking fury, turning in a tightly wound set that included future hits "Smells Like Teen Spirit" and "Come As You Are", Courtney Love reportedly berated a bouncer who could not find her name on Nirvana's guest list.

After the show, Finch took Courtney backstage to meet the band, where she was initially drawn to Grohl, who Finch happened to be dating at the time.  Finding Kurt to be aloof and distant, Courtney later commented on the singer's "quiet genius" and set about methodically

All of this raises the question: "How would history have been different if Jennifer Finch had just kept her mouth shut?"
