Like the time Babe Ruth reportedly stepped to the plate and signaled to the stands with his bat, then hit a home run that has been orbiting the earth ever since, we too are pointing our bat at the stands as if to say that we guarantee this song will get lodged in your head like a Kyle Schwarber quadruple dinger lodged permanently in a trillion-dollar Wrigley scoreboard.
If the name Eddie Rabbitt doesn't ring a bell, well, then you've probably never owned an 8-track tape player, or seen an episode of "Solid Gold". Maybe you played "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas" and loved hearing the song on one of the game's fictional radio stations in between car-jackings.
Hell, we had it on 8-track.
Nothing like singing along to this one, getting ready to belt out that chorus and - KER-chunk - the player changes tracks. It only lasts a second or so, but that's more than long enough to harsh anyone's mellow, especially those who just unleashed the mother of all tom fills on their steering wheel to dead fucking silence, pulling a glute in the process.
We're not saying that's a real-life story, but if you see us limping today, you'll know why.
For you country purists out there, 'tis true Eddie Rabbitt was born in Brooklyn, but one must ask how many ways must a dude leave his heart in Nashville before they earn your respect? Truth is, Rabbitt kept the lights on for a lot of people on Music Row and quite literally left his heart in Nashville once and for all when he passed from lung cancer in 1998.
The song itself was cut at the legendary Caribou Ranch in Nederland, Colorado with longtime Rabbitt producer David Malloy. Though it would join Rabbitt's sixteen other Country #1 hits, "I Love A Rainy Night" was the only one to go #1 on the pop charts as well.
