With all the molten activity in Hawaii as of late, one can't help turn on the news without worrying about our brethren in the land of Don Ho, or, for that matter, getting the itch to crank the B-52's "Lava" at a volume loud enough to stop a volcano dead in its tracks.
"Hot lava, hot lava!"
Listening to the song now, for what must be the 10,000th time, I am reminded once again that this was the band, and album, that brought John Lennon out of retirement because he finally thought that the world was ready for Yoko.
As for the rightfully-legendary debut album from which "Lava" sprang forth in 1979, there are few albums as refreshingly buoyant for the full duration as this and, as if to prove it was no stroke of luck, the band's next album picks up where the first left off and actually surpasses the debut, despite being a darker-themed record.
So, does the B-52's first album remain their best?
Think it over.
Meanwhile...
"I'm gonna jump in a crater."
"See ya later!"
