Everybody who keeps track of such things knows that Jeff Beck has long been a Fender Strat man. So why is he kicking the ever-loving shit out of a Gibson 175 in the 1966 Michelangelo Antonioni film "Blow-Up"?

Shot answer: It was Steve Howe's guitar.

"WHAT?!"

Long answer: Steve Howe's band at the time, The In Crowd, had landed the coveted slot in the film's pivotal scene where David Hemmings innocently stumbles upon a rock band performing just as the band's guitarist, annoyed by a loud buzzing, smashes the guitar, thereby causing a riot.

The film's production crew had gone so far as to create a number of replicas of Howe's guitar to be used during the filming of the scene. Upon hearing that the Yardbirds were suddenly available to shoot the scene, Antonioni dispensed with The In Crowd, but the replica guitars that had been built for Howe remained and were used to shoot the scene.
