Paul McGear and Michael McCartney, er... |
Rather than twiddle his thumbs, Macca did the next best thing by helping his brother, Mike McGear, record a new solo album for Warner Brothers.
Better still, McCartney then offered his brother the use of his world famous band, Wings, including new hot shot guitarist Jimmy McCullough.
Now, to anyone who might think that McGear was simply hoping to ride Paul's coattails to fame and fortune, keep in mind that McGear had enjoyed widespread UK success with his "band" The Scaffold, who had scored two Top 10 UK hits, "Thank U Very Much" (1967) and "Lily The Pink" (1968).
Ironically enough, The Scaffold's third Top 10 hit, "Liverpool Lou", would be recorded during the McGear sessions, with Wings providing musical backing.
In one of the worst moves in all of music, Warner Brothers chose to "play down" the involvement of Paul McCartney & Wings on the project and the album flopped, both in the UK and the States.
However, it does contain recorded proof of Wings covering Roxy Music's "Sea Breezes".
