R.E.M. have completed work on their 15th studio album with producer Jacknife Lee (u2, Snow Patrol, Weezer), with a pending release date of first quarter 2011. In the meantime, Peter Buck continues working with Snow Patrol's Gary Lightbody in their side band Tired Pony, which will be hitting the US for a few select dates this fall. The tentative title of the new R.E.M. album is Chronic World, a reinterpretation of the title of their first EP, Chronic Town.

Coldplay and Jay-Z have signed on to headline New Year's Eve festivities at new Las Vegas casino resort, Cosmolitan of Las Vegas. The concert is part of a 3-day invite-only NYE celebration and will be broadcast live on the resort's HD marquee facing the Las Vegas Strip.

Weezer are headlining a secret show in L.A. tonight as part of the Axe Music "One Night Only" music series. Rumors abound that the original line-up will reunite onstage for the first time since 1997. This is all in preparation for a full-scale tour that will see the band performing their first two albums in their entirety in conjunction with the deluxe re-issue of 1996's Pinkerton in November.

Quiet Riot have reformed despite the fact that original singer Kevin DuBrow died. Drummer Frankie Banali got the OK to carry on from DuBrow's mother and has wrangled former Quiet Riot members Chuck Wright and Alex Grassi. Banali recruited the band's new singer Mark Huff from a Sammy Hagar-era Van Halen tribute band.

Brace yourself: The music world is only four days away from the live return of...Bush, who will be making their first live appearance in eight years at the Epicenter Music Festival in Fontana, CA. They'll be part of a bill that also features KISS and Eminem, among others.
