When Slim Dunlap suffered a stroke in February 2012, thousands of Replacements fans were stunned, as was the tight-knit Minneapolis rock community. While Dunlap is still recovering, his medical bills have been overwhelming. That's where his former bandmates in the Mats come in.
Wanting to help their fallen comrade, Paul Westerberg and Tommy Stinson holed up in a recording studio last fall to record a handful of tracks for an EP to help Slim. Upon finishing the tracks, Paul immediately spoke to the rock press, hinting that the EP would be released in a very limited edition and at auction.
As of today, the first 90 of the 250 total numbered copies are now available for bidding on eBay.
As of press time, bidding for copy #1 has already surpassed the $10,000 mark, which surely comes as awesome news to Slim. It also bodes well for the remaining copies bringing in enough money to help Slim pay for extensive (and necessary) physical rehabilitation.
Okay, so, what are you waiting for? Go bid on a copy of "Songs For Slim", already!
