Happy Birthday Bon Scott!

Happy birthday, Bon Scott!

I don't normally wish dead musical heroes a happy birthday, but there are three exceptions: John Lennon, Keith Richards (har, har) and Bon Scott.  Today's tribute goes out to the original AC/DC singer whose singular style remains one of the most iconic and engaging in all of rock history.

Bon was truly one of those guys who couldn't be anything less than what he was, which was a one-of-a-kind force of nature with a heart of gold and sly wit.  If anything, he was probably the sort to be too trusting in those who do not have his best interests at heart, such as the British pal who left him to sleep one off in his car on a cold winter's night with temperatures below freezing.  Scott, of course, would be found dead the next afternoon, with the coroner listing the cause as "death by misadventure", thereby forever changing the course of rock history.

While Back In Black went on to become the band's best-selling album - and the fourth-best-seller in rock history - whose to say how much better it would have been with Bon at the helm?  No slam against Brian Johnson, who admirably replaced Scott on Back In Black, which was released only six short months after Scott's passing, but there will only ever be one Bon Scott.
