If the name Exude rings a bell, you just might be a pop culture trivia buff in the making if not a Trivia Night champion already. The band skyrocketed to semi-fame in 1984 with the self-released novelty hit "Boys Just Want To Have Sex".
The result of airplay on KROQ and Dr. Demento's syndicated radio show led A&M Records to license the song throughout North America, with other licensing deals for Europe and Venezuela, yet the band released their first full-length in 1985 on indie Rah Rah Records.
Despite name-dropping "Boys Just Want To Have Fun" on the front of the album Play With The Boys, the song is nowhere to be found, but there are 9 new songs completely lacking in the same irreverent humor that made their spin on the Cyndi Lauper hit "Girls Just Want To Have Fun" so popular in the first place! Woo hoo!
While the band's songs are now decidedly serious, the unintentional humor of their video for "Safe With You", which couldn't have possibly seemed state-of-the-art at the time (could it?) is truly one for the ages.
